Meet Cynthia McSwain
LCMHC
SHE/HER
I’m Cynthia and I love to live out the themes of nurturing, creativity, and growth. I reside with my kiddo, 2 dogs, and 4 cats. Together we all have our quirks, silliness, and needs. Art, stand up comedy, and community bring balance to my life. I am passionate about not being stuck due to injustices, trauma, and/or adulting. To me, therapy is a place of safety, discussions, collaboration, questioning, and empowerment. It brings forth awareness, growth, and ability to simply be. Life is a constant dialectic to me- joy and challenges- moment by moment along with some sparkles.

"Healing is an act of resistance. To choose yourself, to mend what the world tried to break, is revolutionary." — Alok Vaid-Menon
MY SPECIALTIES
Areas of Expertise
In therapy with me, you’ll find a space that is safe, collaborative, and rooted in growth. I believe in the power of psychoeducation—understanding your own mind is a vital step toward healing. Together, we’ll explore your experiences, challenge unhelpful narratives, and build practical skills to navigate life’s complexities. I integrate coping strategies, DBT skills, and creative outlets like art and writing because healing isn’t just about talking—it’s about learning, growing, and reclaiming your sense of self. I know that life is a mix of joy and challenges, and therapy should reflect that balance. Sometimes, we’ll dig deep, and other times, we’ll find moments of laughter and lightness. My goal is to help you move forward with awareness, empowerment, and a few more tools in your toolkit.

Cynthia's Story
From a young age, I listened to friends and strangers share painful stories caused by others’ harmful and unjust actions. Their experiences fueled my passion for becoming a trauma therapist—to help survivors heal, experience their power, and thrive. I never wanted anyone to feel trapped or diminished by someone else’s abuse. That’s why I specialize in working with adults who have experienced sexual trauma, whether in childhood or adulthood. Healing doesn’t have to happen in isolation—I believe in building a community where no one is alone, everyone can to heal, and joy is part of the journey.
